Weathered Wear on my Steer

I was at the shipper in Alabama when one of the technicians who was cleaning up the parking lot noticed uneven wear on my steer. Good thing he pointed it out to me, cuz I never would have noticed – I’m not so observant on my pre-trips. And I didn’t notice my ride getting any bumpier.

Sure enough the tread on the outer toe of my driver’s steer was as worn as a trampled lawn. Not only that but it was starting to develop bulges all along the circumference. It was as patchy as the front lawn on Lebaum St.

I sent a text to Mr. Beagan, one of my former instructors at North American Trade Schools and he confirmed I needed to get a new tire.

Well first I had to make it 800+ miles to Abilene Texas to deliver the stack of flatbeds.

The technicians removed both steers and checked the shocks. Sure enough, the shocks did not return to it’s initial position when depressed. That’s probably why the tire was wearing unevenly. The tire was not been kept in optimal contact with the road at all times.

The technicians asked if I wanted to balance the tires using Centramatic, but once they quoted me $850, I quickly declined and opted to do a regular balancing with the wheel balancer and weights.

When the techs were doing a complementary tire pressure check they found a screw in one of my tires.

They pulled it out with a plier and thankfully it didn’t go all the way through to the beads.

So I definitely got more than I bargained for. Now with my steer replaced and wheels balanced, I’m good for another 50k+ miles LOL
