June 12, 2021 by chito

i stopped at Silver's Travel Plaza where there was plenty of parking, but little choices for food. I walked a mile to the nearest restaurant to get some dinner. "Welcome to Crazy 'Bout Crawfish," said Lana. Crazy Bout Crawfish "Great to be back here, what's the special today?" "It's Thursday, so its the seafood platter." "Perfect!" I replied. My hostess, … [Read more...] about Crazy Bout Crawfish Boulette

Stranded at Biloxi Beach

June 11, 2021 by chito

So I woke up at the crack of dawn and went for a swim in Biloxi Beach. What a treat to be able to park on the pier and walk out the beach for a run and swim before I head out. Yeah, there were swimming advisories of high bacteria in Gulfport, but there was several miles away. After drying up, and shaking all the sand off my feet, I was ready to roll. When I turned the … [Read more...] about Stranded at Biloxi Beach

Happy Times in Baton Rouge

June 6, 2021 by chito

I've passed by Baton Rouge many times, but have never stopped. Today, since my delivery date got pushed back till Tuesday, I decided to give BR a try. I parked at the LA-1 South Truck Stop and caught a uber to the USS Kidd Navy Museum. After visiting the state capitol grounds, I went on a hunt for three things: amazing happy hour specials, place to watch the Mavs/Clippers … [Read more...] about Happy Times in Baton Rouge

Lake Charles Creature Comfort

May 20, 2020 by chito

If you're driving on I-10 to or from Houston and wanna take a quick pitstop and even a nap or a swim, Lake Charles can be your place for creature comfort. It's easy to get off the interstate right by the archaic Lake Charles bridge with its steep arc and decrepit deck as you plummet down like a rollercoaster - terrifying as hell. There's plenty of parking, especially for … [Read more...] about Lake Charles Creature Comfort

Kidd on Christmas

December 25, 2019 by chito

The last couple times I drove by Baton Rouge, I wanted to stop to see the Kidd. But I was pulling a 53 footer and knew that it would be busy with commuters and tourists. Today, been Christmas Day, was a perfect day to finally visit the USS Kidd Veterans' Museum on the banks of the Mississippi River. After crossing the 18-mile Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, coasting at a … [Read more...] about Kidd on Christmas

After I retired from the Navy, I attended George Washington University to earn my MBA. I left with a diploma, and with a food tech startup called RUNINOut. Our goal was to add as many restaurants, stores and attractions to the directory and after running it for five years, I felt I had oversaturated the local Washington, DC market. It was time to take RUNINOut on the road. In order for my startup to grow, I had to add more restaurants – that meant getting outside the Beltway and exploring the highways and byways in small town suburbia. I bought a truck and drove cross-country for two years. Here's my adventures in the Washington, DC area and beyond.
