Sapelo Island Tour

September 29, 2021 by chito

Mom & Colin visited Sapelo Island, a 30 minutes ferry ride from Meridian. You can go fishing and crabbing and ride horses on the beach. Sapelo Island is the site of the historic Hog Hammock Community, also known as Hogg Hummock. Some historians believe Hog Hammock is one of the last intact island-based Gullah-Geechee communities in America.  The … [Read more...] about Sapelo Island Tour

Chicago’s Magnificent Shoreline

March 23, 2021 by chito

Chicago is known for its cold, blustery winters and humid summers. So when the weather breaks, Chicagoans from near and far flock to the beach to dip their feet in frigid Lake Michigan. Ohio Street Beach next to the Navy Pier And on this late March day, the temperatures rose above 60, and tons of Chicagoans came out in droves. They packed the Magnificent Mile and … [Read more...] about Chicago’s Magnificent Shoreline

Mini Vacation Myrtle Beach

March 14, 2021 by chito

My first load with Landstar was a load I had not planned or hoped for. As I was wrapping up Orientation at Reedsville, PA, I got a call from an agent who needed a load moved that afternoon to arrive in North Myrtle Beach by the morning.  Never to say No to an opportunity, I booked it.  It had 3 stops, the last would be in North Charleston on Monday.  Twist my arm, but I would … [Read more...] about Mini Vacation Myrtle Beach

A Glimpse of Annapolis

January 27, 2021 by chito

I launched my paddle board at the vibrant Annapolis town dock next door to the prestigious grounds of the Naval Academy. If you wanna visit the Academy, you can request an escorted tour, but really the best way to catch a vivid, accurate snapshot of midshipmen life is from the banks of the Severn River. And the best time to go is in the evening when the midshipmen are done … [Read more...] about A Glimpse of Annapolis

The Beach @ Pop’s Seafood Shack Long Island

July 25, 2020 by chito

After 3 weeks in the shop, I was happy to be back in the cab. I was surprised that I was able to book an Amazon load a block away heading to NJ. To my consternation Amazon cancelled the load which is fairly common these days. It's been 3 long weeks getting repairs, so I wasn't gonna stay parked for long. Didn't want to head to Jersey since i there's a toll coming back into the … [Read more...] about The Beach @ Pop’s Seafood Shack Long Island

Swimming with the Jellies @ Sandy Point

July 13, 2020 by chito

If you're looking for calm, open waters for swimming or SUP, then Sandy Point State Park is only 30-40 mins drive from the Beltway. Yeah, there's the Potomac, but you can't swim there and with Phase 2 of the Coronavirus shutdown, most of the area pools are still closed. There are many advantages for settling for a Chesapeake Bay beach rather than trekking it to the ocean. … [Read more...] about Swimming with the Jellies @ Sandy Point

After I retired from the Navy, I attended George Washington University to get my MBA. I left with a diploma, and also with a food tech startup called RUNINOut. Our goal was to add as many restaurants, stores and attractions to the site and after running it for five years, I had oversaturated the local Washington, DC market. It was time to take RUNINOut on the road.

In order for my startup to grow, I had to add more restaurants – that meant getting outside this blessed Beltway and exploring the highways and byways in small town suburbia.
