Fig & Barrel Pub

July 18, 2021 by chito

I arrived in York to pickup my trailer at the Landstar drop lot. My Stop Warning light had other plans. So I parked downtown and decided to get something to eat at the Fig & Barrel Pub. The restaurant had a nice redstone fireplace flanked by gorgeous leather banquettes As soon as I sat down, I was greeted by Rita. She was really personable and I found out she is … [Read more...] about Fig & Barrel Pub

Distressed Load

May 28, 2021 by chito

So first thing this morning, I got a call from an agent. Didn't recognize the number, almost didn't pick up. "Are you in need of a trailer? We have a distress load that needs to be picked up at the TA in Jessup, MD and delivered to the UPS "No, thank you. I'm not interested," I replied. Then I gave it a second thought. This was an Amazon load to the UPS Cargo … [Read more...] about Distressed Load

Bailey’s Burnham OIP

April 1, 2021 by chito

Mike Bailey is a man of God, he has started nine churches in several states and has mentored scores of pastors and clergy. When he's not breaking bread, he's making it the Italian way at the Burnham OIP which he bought in 1978. It's a family business, his daughter worked there and that's where she met Miguel Interiano who became Mike's son-in-law six years ago. I stopped … [Read more...] about Bailey’s Burnham OIP

Philly – Friday Night Feast

August 16, 2020 by chito

Just when I was ready to leave for Baltimore to pickup my Amazon load, I found a load going from Sterling, VA to West Deptford, NJ paying three times as much. Typically, I don't like to cancel a few hours before pickup time, and Amazon penalizes us with a bad grade, but this was a no brainer. So after delivering the loaded trailer with carts, I headed to Philly. There was … [Read more...] about Philly – Friday Night Feast

Keystone to Nowhere

August 6, 2020 by chito

I couldn't be happier to arrive in Keystone Truckstop, a small family-owned truck stop and diner nestled in the mountains in the middle of nowhere. I've had this spot programmed into my GPS, since there was nowhere else to get fuel until I arrived in Pittsburgh. I pulled into a dirt lot riddled with potholes and I was relieved that I had beat the looming storm front. Any … [Read more...] about Keystone to Nowhere

Bethlehem Bonanza

July 28, 2020 by chito

I arrived at the gravel yard at Weldship in Bethlehem searching for a trailer that wasn't there. A day cab approached and a man that looked like he was boss informed me that the trailer was in the shop getting a power wash. "You're gonna spend a night here?" I looked across the street and saw a Comfort Inn and beyond the hill, gothic style medieval architecture and I … [Read more...] about Bethlehem Bonanza

After I retired from the Navy, I attended George Washington University to earn my MBA. I left with a diploma, and with a food tech startup called RUNINOut. Our goal was to add as many restaurants, stores and attractions to the directory and after running it for five years, I felt I had oversaturated the local Washington, DC market. It was time to take RUNINOut on the road. In order for my startup to grow, I had to add more restaurants – that meant getting outside the Beltway and exploring the highways and byways in small town suburbia. I bought a truck and drove cross-country for two years. Here's my adventures in the Washington, DC area and beyond.
