After dropping off the Amazon load in Chesapeake, I spent the night at the NEX parking lot next to Chili’s. It was really smart for Norfolk to locate their NEX off base making it more convenient for shopping.
This was my first visit to the Port of Norfolk (Norfolk International Terminal). When I worked for DM Bowman, I visited the Baltimore port often and loved it.
Both ports are very much the same – lots of regulation and red tape. Gigantic and easy to get lost. But it’s adventure to drive into a huge deep-water port and see all those towering cranes unloading massive amounts of cargo.
I lucked out picking up a single chassis and driving to Baltimore. No chains or binders required and I would get a 24 hour break at home.
I began to think of the truckers who have been protesting at the National Mall for 2 weeks now. It’s a tough job and things have only gotten more challenging with COVID.
