Disappointment with Amazon’s Freight Brokerage Service

May 15, 2020 by chito

Last year, Amazon launched its freight brokerage services in its move to gain market share. Instead of pulling their own loads from their warehouses to fulfillment centers, Amazon would use their trailers and wide pool of independent truck drivers to ship loads for third parties. So what looks like an Amazon load on the highway, may not actually be an Amazon load at all. My … [Read more...] about Disappointment with Amazon’s Freight Brokerage Service

Never Ending Hills

May 12, 2020 by chito

I-81 follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains like a slipped rib. The drive in some stretches can be challenging to some and down right frustrating to others. "Heck, it's not all that bad," says some truckers. I'll take 81 over 95 any day. Hills are better than crazy suburbia drivers in their SUVS and luxury sports cars, " I heard. If you don't start the hills with … [Read more...] about Never Ending Hills

ST Lou – Gateway to the Midwest

March 1, 2020 by chito

There's something special about St. Louis. No, it's not Anheuser Busch beer. It's the Gateway Arch, a 630 foot monument clad in stainless steel- the largest arch in the world and the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere - the Gateway to the Midwest. And in 2018, it got a full renovation called CityArchRiver. The best place to get an incredible view of … [Read more...] about ST Lou – Gateway to the Midwest

Florida State Fair

February 4, 2020 by chito

One thing with Florida's good weather, there's an abundance of fairs. There's over 200 state fairs from Sept to May and I was dispatched to move a thrill ride from one fair to another. From the South Florida Fair at West Palm Beach to the granddaddy of them all, the Florida State Fair in Tampa. Florida is so in love with their fairs that they the state has commissioned … [Read more...] about Florida State Fair

Beer Load

December 14, 2019 by chito

I woke up at 0300 to the screeching sound of my screaming meanie, wishing i never signed up for this. It was a beer load and beer was the last thing from my mind right now - I needed a urgent shot of espresso. I had to deliver the load to Long Island by 7am and I wanted to make it over the GW Bridge - a motorist nightmare, before rush hour. Good thing it's a drop and … [Read more...] about Beer Load

The Long Island Dud

August 5, 2019 by chito

I glanced despondently at the empty load board, with little option but to inquire upon a antiquated flatbed in Long Island that needed to be transported all the way down south to Clearwater, FL "That's a 53' long trailer with an ole Mac tractor with a wrecking ball in the back," stated the broker. "And you have to chain it all down so it doesn't roll. The idea of … [Read more...] about The Long Island Dud

After I retired from the Navy, I attended George Washington University to earn my MBA. I left with a diploma, and with a food tech startup called RUNINOut. Our goal was to add as many restaurants, stores and attractions to the directory and after running it for five years, I felt I had oversaturated the local Washington, DC market. It was time to take RUNINOut on the road. In order for my startup to grow, I had to add more restaurants – that meant getting outside the Beltway and exploring the highways and byways in small town suburbia. I bought a truck and drove cross-country for two years. Here's my adventures in the Washington, DC area and beyond.
