Virginia Beach Oceanaire

I was fortunate to have a load leaving the VA Beach Convention Center on Monday. So been the beach bum that I was, I arrived early to spend the whole weekend there. I found an empty lot next to the Sheraton that had a backhoe and figured this would be a good place to park my rig. The beach was busy for early February, but a bit too cold to go for a dip.

So I visited the Time Share Resort, Oceanaire. It was easy to enter the grounds – they don’t check to ensure you’re a guest. There’s an adult-only pool and jacuzzi with a great view of the beach. Connected is a kids pool with sprinklers and a splash zone. Then there’s a larger pool that’s heated and tolerant for this time of the year.

After going for a quick swim, I went to unwind at the upscale cocktail bar, Ultra.

It was Friday, and they had a $5 special on martinis from 7-9.

I started with that then followed up with a locally crafted Tarnished Truth Manhattan.

She made me a strong cocktail with slight bitterness and herbal undertones. Not been a liquor connoisseur, it tasted very much like an Old Fashioned.

“Have you heard about the Coronavirus?” I asked.

“Yes, it’s bad. Thankfully there aren’t any cruise ships here.”

“Doesn’t seem to affect VB yet. There’s plenty of people on the beach today.”

“So are you from around here?” asked my mixologist.

“No, from DC. I’m here for work, but play first this weekend.”

“Cool, how did you find out about Ultra?”

“Well, five years ago I almost got suckered into purchasing a time share here.

Virginia Beach is known for its time shares and the Resort wooed me with two free nights at a beachside hotel in January, and when the clock struck twelve, I was the not-so-proud owner of a beach-front timeshare. Actually the condo didn’t face the beach. You couldn’t see the daily pod of dolphins swimming by the shore. But you can hear the sounds of the waves and feel the ocean breeze hydrate your face.

The best attraction of Oceanaire are undoubtedly the pools.

If you want to swim in an expansive pool while basking in the sun, then visit the pool by the Tiki Bar.

If you want to enjoy exquisite quietness while enjoying the healthy benefits of salt water, then visit Aqua 21. On a cool day, the fire pit is raging and you can enjoy the scenic view of the beach.

So when I left the Beach, I was the regretful owner of a early January time share at Oceanaire. It had a nice balcony (overlooking the street), two big bedrooms, 2 baths and all owners had access to the penthouse on the rooftop as well as the numerous pools and tiki bar on the ground floor.

The Oceanaire has an expansive view of the beach and a large pool area for adults and kids.

Normally , I’m a man of my word. I stick to my guns even if I realize I made a mistake. But when I returned home to DC, I was surprised to see that my housemate had completely rearranged my living room and moved my entire office furniture to the basement storage room. Of course, I was livid and when I tried to get ahold of him – he was no where to be found. Like a chicken shit, he had moved out and he couldn’t face the light.

So I finished my drink and ready to grab something to eat.

I visited Stooges and ordered the quesadillas. The bar is drastically different from the high class Ultrabar. Here, the prices are more reasonable and the bartenders are natural and sarcastic. Was looking forward to hanging out at VB all weekend.
