It was a huge gym meet in Virginia Beach and I was glad to deliver the Spieth trailer from Virginia Beach Convention Center to Excel Gymnastics & Cheer in Lawrenceville, GA, just outside Atlanta.
It’s great to see Simone Biles branding with Spieth. The four-time Olympic gold medalist, who has her eyes set on Tokyo, is quite an extraordinary athlete and personality. She is the most decorated gymnast in history with 25 medals. I’m rooting for her to do well again in the 2020 Olympics and it was an honor to pull one of her trailers to Lawrenceville.
Parking the trailer into the dock was no simple feat, and I actually had to stop altogether, take a break and give it time to ponder it over.
First, I thought that it was virtually impossible. There was not enough space even if you slid the tandems all the way back (this reduces your tail swing). Then out of nowhere but Eureka, I had an Aha! moment.
There was possibly a way. I had to think outside of the box. Instead of starting the alley dock as soon as I came in, I had to exit out first. The trick would be to turn completely around and then head straight out of the lot.
Then and only then could I slowly back into the lot and do two back-to-back alley docks to get the trailer into the tightest alley dock space ever attempted by mankind.
The customer wasn’t there when I arrived, but I talked to him later on the phone. Wished he had told me this. Would have made it a lot easier for me. It’s amazing what basic communication can do for you. A simple text before my arrival would have greatly helped.
