Dealing with Election Anxiety

I woke up this day with so much to look forward to. After four long, solemn years feeling the wrath of the most corrupt President in history, we would hopefully be electing a new administration and welcoming sunnier days ahead.

Because I wanted to be close to Black Lives Matter Plaza and where all the action is in case of a decisive victory, I booked a room at the Normandy Hotel a mile and half away.

The Normandy is nestled along tree-lined streets in the Kalorama area just north of Dupont Circle . The closest restaurant is Buca di Beppo where I stocked up with two trays of pasta – fettuccine alfredo and spaghetti and meatballs which satiate three healthy appetites.

I loved the stunning decor and atmosphere of Little Italy from wall-to-wall, not to mention the wonderful aroma of Tuscan food.

Then it was time for the marathon of election day results from the likes of MSNBC, CBS, NBS and CNN. The evening started promising with initial leads in Florida, Ohio, even Texas. But then the leads started to slip away and soon, they clearly turned into Trump’s takeaways. And sadly, Trump was also leading big in Penn the state of Biden’s childhood. America had fallen for the biggest conman in history four years ago. Once bitten – twice shy. Hopefully, our grandkids will study our generation’s biggest mistake with light at the end of the tunnel.

Now the clearest way to a Biden victory is a win in the Midwest Blue Wall battlegrounds of Wisconsin and Michigan, where he was losing big.

Before I finally dozed off, we had put Minnesota in our win column. We were also winning in Arizona, thanks to Mark Kelly and Cindy McCain.

And by the time I woke up, we had taken the lead in Wisconsin and Michigan. The bennies of staying at Normandy, we can work out at nearby Washington Sports Club for free, so I took advantage of that opportunity and enjoyed it. The whole building including Buca and the Office Depot was boarded up expecting the worst to happen.

By the time I got done with the workout, Biden had won Wisconsin and Michigan would be next. A lot had changed over the last six hours. Feeling hungry, I went down to Kramerbooks for a late lunch

I liked the outdoor patio and street-eatery and since it was a unseasonably mild day (mid-70’s), I enjoyed my Smoked Pork Hash. while watching passerbys getting on with their business nonchalantly as if this was any other day in the District.

By the time I got done, we were making huge gains in Georgia and Pennsylvania. Wow, what a big shift from the night before when we were down big. It would soon be time to visit Black Lives Matter Plaza

The Plaza was bristling with the same energy and fervor that we’ve seen in DC since the early days of summer.

The tide had clearly turned and I was both hopeful and enthusiastic for the new administration.

That feeling of elation took a big hit when Trump held a presser in the Brady Briefing Room making false accusations that the election had been stolen without any evidence, undermining America’s deeply-rooted democratic process.
