Double Stack to Concrete Pipes & Precast

When I saw the load popup on the Truckstop load board, I dismissed it. It would be a double stack of 48 footer flatbeds requiring 8 straps, all of which I would have to purchase ($350)

I was enjoying Indianapolis and was enamored by the beautiful war memorials.

Honestly, I was hard pressed to leave. I could easily stay in Indy for another day or two. Yes the city was shut down except for carry-out. But the memorials sure looked great with less tourists.

Check out the Army Navy Memorial at midday (looking out for Potbelly’s) – it’s a Monument desert

There were plenty of other loads from Indianapolis, especially from Amazon. Heck with COVID-19, there was high demand to restock grocery stores and medical supplies. The Amazon loads were all drop and hook and all quick pay.

But the broker was kind and persistent and since this load would take me home, I soft-heartedly relented. I’ve never hauled a load of flatbeds, and the mantra of my trucking career thus far was to try everything once before I dismiss it.

It wasn’t until when I accepted the load that I realize that the flatbeds were going to Concrete Pipe & Precast (CP&P), my previous employer with DM Bowman three years ago.

Luckily, it was a double stack (not a triple) and the load was already strapped down. It had only six straps, but that’s DOT legal. Make sure there are two straps in the first and last 10 feet and then then you can spread out the remaining two straps in the middle.

I was happy to be heading home. That’s because I have a medical appointment at Malcomn Grow on Friday. But the day before my appointment, I was dismayed to hear that my physician was exposed to the Coronavirus and had to be quarantined.
