Transmission Barcade – Columbia

May 13, 2021 by chito

I arrived in Columbia, SC on Saturday, after stopping at Kenly 95 for the Truckers Jamboree. My 10-speed shifted smoothly on the newly-widened I-20 like a knife on hot butter. Parking was tight at the Flying J, but I was able to snag a premium spot by the trucker's chapel for free. Even though the spot said "Reserved", the Fuel Desk told me, they only charged for the spots … [Read more...] about Transmission Barcade – Columbia

A Perfect Day for Watermelon Cider

April 30, 2021 by chito

I wasn't supposed to be in SC for long. Quick drop-n-hook then a lazy load to Florida. But shippers and receivers had other plans. Sage Automotive decided to close early on Saturday, The gates firmly slammed closed. The guard sadly informed me that I had to wait till first thing Monday. Now I'm stuck here. What did Spartanburg have in store for me? A charming Southern town … [Read more...] about A Perfect Day for Watermelon Cider

Mini Vacation Myrtle Beach

March 14, 2021 by chito

My first load with Landstar was a load I had not planned or hoped for. As I was wrapping up Orientation at Reedsville, PA, I got a call from an agent who needed a load moved that afternoon to arrive in North Myrtle Beach by the morning.  Never to say No to an opportunity, I booked it.  It had 3 stops, the last would be in North Charleston on Monday.  Twist my arm, but I would … [Read more...] about Mini Vacation Myrtle Beach

After I retired from the Navy, I attended George Washington University to earn my MBA. I left with a diploma, and with a food tech startup called RUNINOut. Our goal was to add as many restaurants, stores and attractions to the directory and after running it for five years, I felt I had oversaturated the local Washington, DC market. It was time to take RUNINOut on the road. In order for my startup to grow, I had to add more restaurants – that meant getting outside the Beltway and exploring the highways and byways in small town suburbia. I bought a truck and drove cross-country for two years. Here's my adventures in the Washington, DC area and beyond.
