Nestled in the heart of Antigua, Porta Hotel offers a unique blend of history, luxury, and modern comfort. Built in 1948, this well-established hotel is one of the finest in the city, offering a truly memorable stay.
Just a five-minute walk from Parc Central, where my friends and I were fortunate enough to experience the Los Angeles Azules concert in the rain, the location of Porta Hotel couldn’t be more perfect. The surrounding area is rich with dining options, from traditional Guatemalan cuisine to familiar American favorites. We enjoyed a nostalgic dinner at McDonald’s and a delightful breakfast at Samsara, one of the many local spots nearby.
The hotel’s breakfast buffet is a treat, offering a variety of dishes to start your day right. On weekends, they extend the buffet to include lunch, which is a great way to sample more of their offerings. The weekends also bring the enchanting sounds of marimba performances that continue late into the evening, adding to the hotel’s charming atmosphere.
Porta Hotel’s amenities are designed for both relaxation and enjoyment. The heated pool is a favorite, especially on weekends when it’s bustling with activity. The pool is thoughtfully designed with a shallow area for children, making it safe and fun for younger guests like Miguel, who had a great time swimming. For those looking to keep up with their fitness routine, the hotel offers a fitness center, and for an extra charge, you can indulge in the spa and sauna. The spa also features a traditional Indigenous steam bath experience known as a Temascal, providing a unique way to unwind.
Business travelers will appreciate the business center, equipped with two Macs, offering everything needed to stay connected. One surprise was the air conditioning in the rooms—something I hadn’t seen elsewhere in Guatemala, making our stay even more comfortable. Most rooms open up to a lovely patio, where you can enjoy the serene surroundings.
With its rich history, luxurious amenities, and prime location, Porta Hotel is truly a standout choice for anyone visiting Antigua.
