If you’re driving into New York City, this is the last place you can stop and grab a bite and a breather before you head into the crazy jungle they call Manhattan.

Vince Lombardi is a 14-acre state-owned rest area on the New Jersey turnpike right before the scenic George Washington Bridge.

“The Vince” is filled with motorists and truckers hoping to grab a bite of Nathan’s famous hot dog washed down with freshly-squeezed lemonade. Stroll out to the parking lot and you’ll see crumbled Burger King wrappers littered in a sea of overgrown weeds taking over the parking lot

Of course truckers can resort to the Kearny Truck Stop, but that’s a hop, skip and a jump over in Jersey City and the place is tiny compared to Vince Lombardi, the legendary football coach of the Green Bay Packers.

There’s a scenic view of the Manhattan skyline. Airplanes land and take off at nearby Newark International Airport and there’s the rumble and boom of cranes in nearby Union City.

It’s the only truck stop that is patrolled by State Troopers who aggressively issue tickets for double parking. And as tempting as it may seem, don’t park and take a uber into Manhattan. If you stay over 10 hours, they will tow you.

Don’t ask me how they know, you’re overextended your stay. But I wouldn’t want to find out.
