It’s Monday after the debut of post-pandemic football. I’ve had the fish and chips yesterday and the crab cake platter earlier. What shall I have for dinner? I’ve always wanted to try Bento Sushi, so why not start off this week right.
Instead of sushi, I opted for the unagi bowl. Unagi (ウナギ) roll is pretty popular with sushi connoisseurs, but eating perfectly grilled freshwater eel over warm rice takes Japanese cuisine to another level.
The eel is butterflied, cut into square fillets, skewered, and dipped in a sweet soy sauce based sauce before been broiled. The aroma of the sweet caramelized unagi sauce alone is enough to make your mouth water.
The rice had generous portions of avocado and was also sprinkled with Ochazuke which is a simple variety of sesame seeds, seaweed flakes and salt.
What a great option over eating Maryland crab cake and chicken sandwiches. If you want to try something savory, exotic and healthy – packed with mega-healthy omega-3 fatty acids – then you should opt for the Unagi rice bowl.
