We Love’s Houston

Nary a metropolitan location where you can park your rig, hop on a commuter train and be downtown in minutes.

Well at the Love’s on Patron in the U.S. Fourth largest city, you can.

With the skyline looming in the near distance, the truck stop is a crown jewel among city truck stops. There’s plenty of parking and the Houston Metro train is minutes away. Running as frequently as every six minutes, you can be from your rig to downtown Houston sipping a margarita within 3o minutes

If you go by reviews, you would steer clear of this place. Truckers complain about lizards and thieves. Heard that there was a huge fire here this summer. Two cabs were ablaze – this sent me chilling memories at Davis Travel Center

There’s a nice noodle eatery immediate next door. They serve Asian noodles – all kinds including pho with generous portions and you must try their Thai milk tea. It’s called Red Hot Noodle Noodle and it’s adjacent to Red Hot Spa.

But if you’re in the mood for something more traditional and local, visit the Fiesta Mart next door.

I had an amazing desayuno with huevo revuelto as well as sopa de hen. My truck is fueled, my stomach is full, and now I’m ready to hit Htown hard.

After this meal, I hopped on the train and visited the newly opened and ravely reviewed Finn Hall.

Food Halls are ideal for people like me who are curious, have an insatiable appetite and can’t be satisfied by a single restaurant.

Finn Hall is 10-inspired chef dining concepts offering craft beer, cocktail and wine on taps.

I visited Sit Lo and had the beef tendon pho and the Saigon-style bowl was sweet, spicy and spectacular.

“We’ve been opened now for about a year,” said proprietor Adrienne Lo.

After this mouth-watering bowl, I was ready to hop back on the train and head home to Love’s and snuggle under my comforter in my toasty cab.

Incidentally, there are other truck stops near the city. There’s also another Love’s and Pilot within 5 miles of downtown. Unlike the Love’s in northeast Houston, this one doesn’t have a metro train. There’s really nothing in the area except for Smoke’n Honey House where you can get good beer.
